OUr Story continues…

As an iconic SF restaurant, Pier 23 Cafe, is often spotlighted on TV shows featuring San Francisco. Food Network superstar, Guy Fieri, has been coming to Pier 23 for years. We were featured on two of his newest shows, DDD Takeout & Triple D Nation. In one segment, Guy interviews Pier 23 Cafe owner, Flicka McGurrin, and her son & GM, Mac Leibert. They all reminisce about the early days at Pier 23 Cafe and how the familial vibe along with outstanding food sets us apart from the rest. When the beloved Anthony Bourdain came to SF on, The Layover, he made a requisite stop at Pier 23 citing that this is the place where locals go. Norman Reedus recently filmed his motorcycle road show, Ride with Norman Reedus, at Pier 23 Cafe. He stopped in for lunch with his buddy Steve Yuen, co-star of Walking Dead.

The true San Francisco character that emanates from the waterfront establishment has long been appreciated by the likes of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jeannette Etheredge (Tosca Cafe fame), Hunter Thompson, Warren Hinkle. When Bruce Bochy, one of the great managers of the SF Giants, was asked to sum up the SF experience for him he answered Pier 23 Cafe and Oracle Park. The legendary SF Chronicle columnist, Herb Caen, celebrated his 80th birthday at Pier 23 Cafe under the direction of the city’s office of protocol headed by Charlotte Shultz.

Several America’s Cups teams watched live feed on our tv’s during the races. We hosted the crew of Plastiki, David de Rothchild’s team, while they built their catamaran of plastic water bottles at Pier 33. Winton Marsalis played an impromptu set at Pier 23 after finishing a performance at Davies Symphony Hall. Johnny Depp interviewed Hunter S. Thompson over a bottle of tequila for the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Sammy Hagar had his official launch party for Cabo Wabo tequila on our waterfront patio. Don Johnson brought his work crew to enjoy live music and dinner while shooting Nash Bridges. Nancy Pelosi brings her family to enjoy brunch when she’s in town. Pier 23 Cafe is a hub for our community. We are honored to host these special occasions and in turn play a part in SF history.
